I love fifth graders! They are firmly grounded in the concrete, but initiate raids into the abstract. What is more, if a number of them are contained in a classroom, they will make you laugh every day. Often, they're just like little human beings.
My grandaughter Gracie is in 5th grade this year. She can go from the ridiculous to the sublime in about 2 seconds. You can see the emergence of a thinking person from a child. I feel so blessed to have four grandaughters.
That picture brings back good times. I miss them. 5th grader can make you laugh one minute and tear your hair out the next but I still look forward to teaching them everyday.

We could always lock up Rick...that's an awful like having a little human being that makes you laugh, too.
